[Misc] Have anyone tried Artistry by Amway? Is it worth the money?

Main Post:

Hello everyone

I was recommended Artistry skin care brand by some people but I'm skeptical if it's worth the money since it's not openly available. However, that brand seems to be those people's first skincare brand, thus there's a lack of comparison. Has anyone use different brands before then changed to Artistry? Why changed?

Is it worth the money? since it's on the more expensive side. is it better than, let's say Clinique or Estee Lauder?

The fact that those people are Amway members doesn't ease my skepticism.

Any reply is highly appreciated. Hope the ones that reply aren't Amway members tho.

Thank you!

It is absolutely not worth the money. The quality is not reflected in the price. Like all MLM products, the price is grossly inflated to support multiple people along the revenue stream.

My advice is to explore non-MLM skincare brands. You cannot trust any reviews from an MLM brand. Also, if a product is truly amazing... it won't require a predatory business model to sell.

[Product Question] Have you ever used this brand? Artistry by Amway. I really like this scrub but it’s pricey. Anything similar to it or better compared to it?

Product comparable to Amway Artistry Supreme LX™ Regenerating Cream [product request]

Main Post:

Hi Reddit skincare experts! Need your help. My mother in law is an Amway person and has got me hooked on this face cream. My skin looks pretty fab when I use it. My issue is: I am pretty certain that it is way overpriced for what it is.

So I’m hoping to harness the power of all of you, dear internet, to find an alternative. What do you recommend??

Extra points if you can take a look at the ingredients list for the Amway product and come up with a comp: https://www.amway.com/en_US/Artistry-Supreme-LX%E2%84%A2-Regenerating-Cream-p-118184V

Fyi - rest of my routine I pretty much follow the standard Barefaced Skincare routine. AM: wash face w/cetaphil, then alternate between either barefaced vitamin c or barefaced glow pads, then barefaced moisturizer, then barefaced SPF 50. PM: wash face w/cetaphil, use barefaced retinol every other day, then the Amway artistry face cream.

Artistry

Main Post:

So, Amway claims that their make up brand Artistry, is one of the top three in the world. They mention it next to Clinique. However, most people I know who love make up have never heard of it. Where did they get this? Or is it just the diamond lying to everyone?

Top three ... alphabetically.

MLM Artistry products????

Main Post:

So I’m aware Amway is one big MLM, and Artistry products are part of that, but upon some research, and a massage therapist putting it on my face, it literally like, got rid of a lot of my sebaceous filaments and tightened and moisturized my skin and tbh I’m CONFUSED??? I don’t wanna give an MLM my money but the cleanser was undeniably good? Is this some kind of trick??? I hate this??? Why aren’t ppl talking abt it??

Top Comment:

This weighs heavily on me too. I hate the Devos family with the fiery passion of a thousand suns but... the products are really good. The Artistry Essentials pore cleansing scrub and mask pretty much single-handedly cured my severe acne. And they're actually pretty affordable. I still use the pore cleansing scrub as my go-to. I just try to disassociate as much as possible the Amway umbrella and the Artistry brand. It's a compromise I'm willing to make since it's so hard to find something that works on my skin.
I say dont fret too much about it. Get what works for your skin. You're not joining the MLM or anything, just order your stuff online and go about your day. Anyways there are a lot of brands that are MLM (think Tupperware, Mary Kay, etc) that actually make decent products. If we try to sift through all of that, we'd go crazy.

Anyone heard of Artistry products?

Main Post:

My friend knows I'm getting desperate and sick of dealing with acne. she suggested i try this? Anyone know anything about it?

Its just another $$$ pyramid scheme MLM company like avon. Most products are probably overpriced for what the are.

Aaaalll the artistry data from 2023 Worlds! (For a deeper dive!)

Main Post:

I am a data nerd, and I wanted to really dig into the artistry deductions from Worlds. So I made a bonkers spreadsheet with the artistry data from all 4 nights of competition for beam and floor! (I capped quals at the top 72 gymnasts for beam, and the top 48 for floor for boring reasons I won’t go into since this post is way too long). I also did some analysis of the judges, and how they compared to each other. I hope someone finds this all as interesting as I do!

Link: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1FSTeWgEu7SApLBrKhMABPhcbL9pZw4qGHiyaHQXnXDQ/edit?usp=sharing

I think the most interesting tabs are the first 5: judging analysis, BB and Floor by gymnast (averaged across all days of competion; if you scroll down you'll find individual artistry scores for each gymnast by competition too), and compilations of all BB and all FL artistry scores. After that there is a tab for each individual competition (Quals, AA, etc) if any particular night interests you, and a raw data tab at the end.

My thoughts:

  • In some ways, this actually made me feel better about artistry judging, in that I generally feel like the people who subjectively felt artistic and expressive (to me!) tended to get the highest artistry scores, and the people who subjectively felt messy or clunky got low scores, while the people who were pretty/polished but not expressive got scores in the middle. One big exception to this is Chinese gymnasts. I love their artistry, especially on floor, and it’s not being rewarded.
  • However, the spread of judging on a single routine is troubling. Especially troubling is that some gymnasts tended to have judges that agreed on their scores, while others tended to have judges that always disagreed (see the two Gymnast tabs). For example, on beam, Eythora, Melanie, and Urara Ashikawa, who did 3 beam routines each, only ever had a one-to-two tenth spread in the artistry judging in every routine. Meanwhile, Simone had 2 to 4 tenth spreads across her four beam routines, and Ou Yushan (2 routines) and Zhou Yaqin (3 routines) had 3 to 4 tenth spreads every time. Really problematic to have so much disagreement about some of the highest scorers.

Takeaways:

  • All hail Eythora queen of artistry! Competing 3 times each on beam and floor, she had 3 out of 4 of the top beam artistry scores, and all 3 of the top floor artistry scores! In every single routine, at least one judge gave her zero artistry deductions! Pauline’s quals beam was the only routine that bested any of Eythora’s artistry scores!
  • Averaging across all competitions, Jess G. and Flavia are top-5 for both events (Jess is 2nd beam and 5th floor, Flavia is 3rd beam and 4th floor). In the top 10 for both are Rebeca (2nd floor, 9th beam), Pauline (5th beam, 10th floor), and Melanie (7th floor, 8th beam).
  • The Americans are really getting dinged on artistry. We knew this, but it really stands out looking at the data. Shilese’s floor stands out as by far the best US artistry (0.29 artistry deductions average, 16th place). Simone is middle of the pack on artistry (26th place on floor, 33rd on beam, with 3 to 4 tenths deduction on each); so much potential for her to improve there.
  • Floor artistry deductions were pretty consistent across competitions, beam were not, with quals and AA being notably harsher on artistry than EF or Team.

Stats:

  • Top 10 on floor (averaged across all days of competition): 1. Eythora (0.10)
    • 2T) Rebeca (0.17)
    • 2T) Ellie Black (0.17)
    • 4) Flavia (0.175)
    • 5T) Laura Casabuena (Spain)!! (0.2)
    • 5T) Jess G. (0.2)
    • 7) Melanie (0.22)
    • 8) Alice D’Amato (0.238)
    • 9) Julia Soares (0.243)
    • 10) Pauline (0.25)
  • Top 10 on beam (averaged across all days of competition): 1. Eythora (0.08)
    • 2) Jess G. (0.16)
    • 3) Flavia (0.17)
    • 4) Marine Boyer (0.179)
    • 5) Pauline (0.181)
    • 6) Sanne Wevers (0.20)
    • 7) Maria Tronrud (Norway)!! (0.21)
    • 8) Melanie (0.22)
    • 9) Rebeca (0.25)
    • 10) Sona Artamonova (Czech Republic)!! (0.26)
  • Shout-out to the lesser-known gymnasts above with world-class artistry! Honorable mentions in the top 20 beam:
    • Anna Lashchevska of Ukraine
    • Rose Woo of Canada
    • Amalia Ghigoarta of Romania

Honorable mentions in the top 20 floor:

  • Arianna Belardelli of Italy
  • Elisa Iorio of Italy
  • Vera van Pol of the Netherlands
  • Lea Marie Quaas of Germany.
  • Higher-profile gymnasts with > 0.4 average deductions on floor: Kishi Rina of Japan (0.41), Ruby Evans of GBR (0.42), Alexa Moreno of Mexico (0.44), Hillary Heron of Panama (0.46), Kaylia Nemour of Algeria (0.46), Georgia Godwin of Australia (0.47), Sabriana Voinea of Romania (0.48), Josc (0.50).
  • Higher-profile gymnasts with > 0.4 average deductions on beam: Kaylia Nemour of Algeria (0.41), Yeo Seojeong of North Korea (0.41), Sabrina Voinea of Romania (0.44), Alexa Moreno of Mexico (0.46), and Georgia Godwin of Australia (0.46). All of these names except Yeo were also on the floor >0.4 list.
  • Kaylia is an interesting high-deduction standout for artistry. Given her impressive performance at Baku, particularly on beam, I’m wondering if she’s also managed to improve her artistry on top of the upgrades she’s been adding? And this is on top of the major improvement in her bars execution in the last few months. How does she do it?
  • Comment if you notice anything else interesting!

Top Comment:

I love Ellie Black but I'm kind of baffled at her lack of artistry deductions on floor. Is she really that much more expressive with her whole body, is her musicality that much better? She's not on a Brooklyn/Nola/Eythora level for me.

From where does "artistry" in photography derive?

Main Post:

As a professional photographer of more than 12 years and deeply introspective person of much longer than that, I've remained on the maddening journey to (hopefully, in time) convey some kind of x-factor or sense of artistry in my own work.

For so long now I've wondered where artistry within photography is derived? Not all photographs are artistic- but those that are, what is it about them that makes it such? What are we seeing/feeling/internalizing when we are spectators of "artistic" photos? Is it a certain type of editing/grading, a certain type of light, composition/framing, is it the subject matter more than it's the technical merits of the photo, or ??? Of course, it's some combination (or all) of the aforementioned and likely more.

I've noticed sometimes film photographers rely too heavily on the idiosyncrasies of expired film to convey a sense of artistry, and I wonder if that cheapens it somewhat? Would the frame still be as enticing if it were shot on digital, or even just a non-expired film? sure, you can make the argument that it's a tool they use to further convey their image, but unlike, say, an artist using a certain hue of paint or technique of brushstroke, the expired film is random.

Also I've noticed viewers often conflate subject matter with the photo itself much too often, and that's kind of frustrating- they judge what the frame is of, rather than the inherent quality of the frame itself, and any metrics used to create a compelling image.

Anyways, I could go on much longer, but have likely gone on for much-too-long for you already, so I'll end my strange abstract thoughts/curiosities here, and hope they're enough to spark some discussion.

It can be different for the photographer, and the person viewing the work.

For the photographer, the artistry for me lies in the intent. That might be that they want to capture an interesting composition; maybe you really like the way that the light is playing in a scene, or the juxtaposition of colours or textures, and you find it aesthetically pleasing. Maybe you're trying to capture a moment: it could be someone crossing the street with the sun setting behind them, someone that you've never met and maybe never will again, or maybe it's capturing a moment from the life of someone who you are connected with, be it something mundane and every day, or something monumental. Maybe it's trying to capture a sense of the feeling at the time of the shot. The majesty of an incredible landscape, or the despair of a country and a people during wartime. Maybe you're trying to tell a story with your work, whether it's documenting something more factual, or trying to evoke certain emotions or ideas with your image.

The details vary as much as they do in any other medium, but the importance, for me at least, is the intent with which the picture was taken.

From the person viewing the photo, that meaning may come across completely differently than that photographer's intent. They may see far more in a photograph than even the photographer. They may interpret it in a completely different way, or they may resonate strongly with the intent behind the original image. But the artistry here comes from evoking something. It could be as little as a fleeting interest, or an overwhelming flood of emotion. But artistic appreciation and taste is entirely intrinsic.

I think a lot of people struggle with the disconnect between the two. It's easy to get caught up in focusing on what outcome YOU want people to experience from your work. Tying your self confidence as an artist in with something that is inherently uncontrollable. For me the key has been to control the part that I can control; that being the intent that I approach my photography with. It comes across in how shoot, how I edit, and how I choose to share my work (with the last part being by far the most challenging). The best work is never something that's been shot for someone else. It's work that the photographer has genuinely and honestly produced, and a lot of the gravitas of it comes from the viewer somehow feeling and appreciating that genuine intent.

Let's talk about skill vs Artistry

Main Post:

For most of this I will be in the realm of rock music and. The underlying question I have do any of you feel sometimes skill can interfere Artistry? Lets take polyphia and animals as leaders for examples I think most guitarist or listeners can agree Tim and Tosin are some of if the she most skilled players and let's throw in John petrucci of dream theater too. But for me its hard to put them on a pedestal and say there the best guitarist (except maybe John for bias reasons). See for me Ive recently gotten back into Aryeons work and I can comfortably say that Arjen Lucassen is for me at least a better Musician than AAL and polyphia not only is he technical as a player but he knows how to utilize multiple styles and melodys to incorporate his singers he has in his music. I'm curious as I know music being very subjective but does anyone else think the same way that Skill isn't all there is to being a great player.

Musicians can be technically impressive, but I’m here to be moved emotionally not impressed by their skill.

Has anyone tried any Amway Artistry Makeup &/or Skincare? How is the quality?

Main Post: Has anyone tried any Amway Artistry Makeup &/or Skincare? How is the quality?

Top Comment:

The quality of what Ive tried is okay. I bought the black pen liner, an eye shadow, and a lipgloss. The pen liner works well, the eyeshadow just came by itself in a pan, so I had to order a z palette real quick. But the lip gloss was not true to the online swatch, it was supposed to be a pinky nude, instead its sickeningly yellow toned. I wont order again because for the prices I paid, Id rather just go to Sephora and come home with my stuff the same day. And not pay for shipping.
